Make Mount Maunganui ocean pool a reality

Make Mount Maunganui ocean pool a reality

Permission and to assist in getting permission from the government and IWI to build a natural ocean pool in Mount Maunganui.

Why is this important?

It's a beautiful feature that will form a wonderful place to swim and relax. Similar style to the natural pools in Sydney it will create a safe, calm space to swim and relax, protected from the waves.

Mount Maunganui, Tauranga, Bay Of Plenty

Reasons for signing

  • Tauranga needs something else.
  • Think of how many kiddies we lose in the tide each summer, awesome to have a safe place for them to swim while enjoying the beach!
  • There used to be a dolphin pool on the blow hole peninsula which the Council hastily filled in when Marineland went broke a few years ago. I could never understand why the Council did not keep it open as a salt water swimming pool. It is the natural and easily redeveloped site for a free natural salt water swimming pool.

I understand that there are some environmental concerns regarding the pool, which is completely understandable. After I have heard from iwi I will be speaking with marine biologists about the most environmentally friendly option. Anyone with additional ideas please feel free to get involved.
