PETITION TO RE-LEGALISE GROWING SMALL QUANTITIES OF CANNABIS FOR HEALTH BENEFITS

Re-legalise growing small quantities of cannabis for health benefits.
a. Prohibition does not work.
b. Medical research has shown that cannabis has benefits in the treatment of cancer.
c. The law is hypocritical. Alcohol and tobacco have documented harmful effects to health, yet there are no documented deaths from the use of the cannabis plant.
d. This legislation needs to be embedded in our laws before the final ratification of the TPPA, which deals with copyright issues..

Why is this important?

We New Zealanders have a democratic right to choose our health treatments – medical or traditional. Elsewhere in the world cannabinoids, such as dronabinol and nabilone, are approved drugs for the treatment of the side-effects of chemotherapy. A new report on the long term health effects of smoking cannabis has found that the worst side effect may be gum disease. We ask that every person who can garden be free to grow this amazing plant, and thus have access to its many medical benefits.

Reasons for signing

  • It's about time. Benefits are well documented.
  • Obvious health benefits and definitely needs more studies and research so we can get a clearer picture on other benefits/negatives about the plant. NZ is rated highly in modern science, research and development and this would be major progress.
  • health benefits
