Stop freedom camping at Rotary Park, Dunedin
This campaign has ended.
Freedom camping at Rotary Park would directly interfere with other many uses of the Park by locals,be open to vandalism of sensitive infrastructure located at the Park such as water reservoirs, pumping stations and telecommunications equipment and be an ongoing cost to ratepayers on a daily basis with cleaning and security. The Park is surrounded by many residential properties and a kindergarten which would be affected by traffic and noise, particularly in the evening. It has been closed at night because of serious problems in the past with partying, wheelies and excessive noise.Residential property prices will also be severely affected by bordering a freedom camping area.
Dunedin residents who pay rates should be allowed to continue to enjoy our local park and not have to endure noisy and unsupervised freedom campers destroying and trashing our beautiful Rotary Park.
Why is this important?
Freedom camping at Rotary Park would directly interfere with other many uses of the Park enjoyed by locals. It would be open to vandalism of sensitive infrastructure and park resources. It would also be a cost to rate-payers with cleaning and security needed constantly. It would mean an increase in traffic and noise and should not be allowed in a residential area where it is surrounded by properties.
